I chose to upcycle into a beautiful fall planter!This tool box is 5.25' deep, so I started by lining the bottom of the tool box with plastic grocery bags as filler. You could also use crumpled newspaper.I then gathered a bunch of fall items to use as my base - real and faux mini pumpkins, gourds, pomegranates, pine cones, small rattan balls, and glittery leaves. I started playing around with the arrangement, layering items on top of the plastic bags until it was visually appealing.Stepping back, I could see the tool box needed something else to fill the space between the top of the box and the handle.
I removed the glittery leaves and instead used faux branches that I tucked into the box. I like how the leaves fill the space, drape around the handle, and add a touch of greenery.I can use this fall arrangement on my porch to welcome family and friends. Or indoors on my foyer table.Since this arrangement is easy to move around using the handle, I'm going to use it in the middle of my table on Thanksgiving as a centerpiece. Having more ingredients below really helps so you don't have to keep running back and forth when items run low.The unit is on wheels so you can roll it to anywhere you want. For a party atmosphere, it works well to have something that can move as needed.In the tool box section were the napkins, spoons, and all the toppings. The drawers made it easy to access and display items needed for the cocoa bar.Toppings we included: caramel sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles, marshmallows, peppermint candies, cookies, powdered sugar.Other items you could use: chocolate chips, flavored syrups, ice cream, toffee, chocolate/mint candies, ice cream, white chocolate chips, and for adult versions you could do a bit of peppermint schnapps or amaretto.

I absolutely love how it turned out and it's such a statement piece that can be used in multiple ways for decor.I started with this. I wanted to give it a whitewash look and thought I'd try out a simple method to create that style.
I went shopping for materials around my home to get ready to give it a whitewash look. I went with an antiquing paint (chalk paint), sponge brush, scraper and spray paint.I started by taking the toolbox outside and used a white spray paint to spray inside of the compartments.
They didn't need to look perfect as the flowers were going to cover it but I didn't want any brown to show through. I just wanted to mask the area to keep it looking similar. The toolbox soaked up the paint so it gave it a weathered look inside naturally.I gave it a while to dry and then brought it inside to finish the outside of the toolbox. I painted one side of the toolbox with the chalk paint.
I made sure to cover the entire side of the toolbox.As soon as I painted the entire side I then used the scraper to scrape the paint off. I love the weathered look it gives and the white paint that remains really soaks into the grains of the wood.After each side of the toolbox was painted and scraped I then used the sponge brush to paint the edges of the toolbox.

I lightly painted those areas and made sure not to do complete coverage.After the paint was dry I put 5 small vases into the compartments. I picked them up at my local dollar store.
I then went outside and picked some hydrangeas from my front yard, filled the vases with the hydrangeas and the old toolbox/new flower box was brought to life!It can be used as a centerpiece for your table or as a decorative item throughout your home!
